Boston Skeptics in the Pub: May 26!

We’ve had two events thus far, filling up a pub with scientists, skeptics, and confused drunkards. We plan to make this month’s talk the biggest yet! Here’s the dilly:

Marc Abrahams at Skeptics in the Pub: Video!

At last, a small wrap-up of the April edition of Boston Skeptics in the Pub with speaker Marc Abrahams!

Like last month (with Mike the Mad Biologist . . . video here), we had between 50 and 60 people show up, filling up the back room of the pub. Marc delivered a fantastic presentation on the Ig Nobel Prizes that he oversees every fall at Harvard. As you may suspect, Marc was hilarious and informative, and kindly stuck around for a Q & A session and a few beers even though he was traveling early the next day.

Those of you not in the Boston area might be seething with jealousy right about now, but take heart! You can thank Maggie McPhee for volunteering to record the entire thing and immediately upload it to Google. Maggie, you are awesome.

Additional thanks go to Kerry for bringing along a mic and amp to help combat the noisy environment.

I’m working out the details for the next get-together, but just so you’re all aware, we may be changing venues. Don’t worry, it’ll be equally T-accessible and probably in Harvard Square.

Bonus video: see Greg Graffin of Bad Religion perform at Harvard Memorial Church this past week.

Boston Skeptics in the Pub Audio/Video

Audio from the first Boston Skeptics in the Pub is now available! I’ve uploaded it to Google Video along with video of Mike the Mad Biologist’s slides. The quality (of the A/V, not of the presentation) is a bit poor, for which I apologize. But, it should be good enough for you to follow, for those of you who are fans of Mike’s but couldn’t be there (in the future please consider moving to Boston).

Here’s the link!

Success!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the very first Boston Skeptics in the Pub! I estimate we netted 50 or 60 people, filling up the Asgard’s back room and overflowing into their slightly-more-frontward back room. Mike the Mad Biologist got high praise for a fascinating talk full of science-y goodness.

Audio of Mike’s talk will be online by this weekend, helpfully accompanied by his slides (including the LOLbacteria, of course). Photos are up on Flickr as I type, and posted below for your enjoyment. If you have any, please add them to the Skeptics, Skepchicks, and Events Group!

I’ll be working on getting a speaker for next month, which will probably be same bat-time, same bat-place. Suggestions? Send ’em to me (Rebecca): skepchick (at) skepchick (dot) org. Continue reading
